■ 今回の主なテーマ :
犬の去勢・避妊手術が健康にどのように影響を及ぼすのか。近年、このテーマの研究は進んできており、今までのメリット重視の考えは変わりつつある。海外では、デメリットも多くあると指摘する研究者も多く、早期の不妊手術は避けるべきという意見が目立ってきている。一方の日本の獣医療では、未だにメリット重視の論調が多く、デメリットについて触れられないことが多い。
そこで今回は、不妊手術が健康に与える影響について、学術論文を調査し、複数の獣医にもインタビューを行って、メリットとデメリットについて比較した。
